Ingredients

Scale

Burger Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion (chopped and divided)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 16 ounces iceberg lettuce (shredded)
  • 4 slices American cheese (chopped into pieces)
  • 4 ounces grape tomatoes (halved)
  • ¼ cup dill pickles (sliced)

Burger Sauce

  • ⅓ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the ground beef, three-fourths of the chopped onion, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the meat is fully cooked through and browned. Drain excess fat from the skillet, then return the beef to the skillet and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Burger Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, water, mustard, white vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Assemble the Burger Bowls: Divide 4 ounces of shredded iceberg lettuce evenly among four bowls. Evenly distribute the cooked ground beef over the lettuce. Top each bowl with chopped American cheese, sliced dill pickles, halved grape tomatoes, and the remaining chopped onion. Drizzle the prepared burger sauce generously over the top of each bowl.
  4. Serve: Serve the loaded burger bowls immediately while the beef is still warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For leaner options, use lean ground beef or substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • Feel free to customize toppings like adding avocado slices, jalapeños, or shredded cheddar cheese.
  • To keep the lettuce crisp, assemble bowls just before serving.
  • This recipe is a great low-carb alternative to traditional burgers as it replaces the bun with lettuce.
  • Leftover sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
