Ingredients

Scale

Meatballs

  • 1 pound ground beef (around 80/20)
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

BBQ Sauce

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 packet onion soup mix (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the meatballs later.
  2. Mix Meatball Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, rolled oats, whole milk, Worcestershire sauce, egg, minced onion, and minced garlic. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
  3. Form Meatballs: Shape the mixture into 12 evenly sized meatballs, loosely compacted to keep them tender.
  4. Brown Meatballs: Heat the vegetable oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches if necessary, and cook each side for about 3 minutes until they are nicely browned.
  5. Prepare Sauce: While the meatballs brown, whisk together ketchup, water, and onion soup mix in a small bowl until smooth and combined.
  6. Add Sauce and Bake: Spoon the prepared sauce evenly over the browned meatballs in the skillet. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes. Alternatively, you can transfer the meatballs and sauce to a casserole dish before baking.

Notes

  • Using rolled oats instead of breadcrumbs adds extra texture and fiber to the meatballs.
  • Ensure your skillet is oven-safe before transferring it to the oven to bake.
  • You can adjust the amount of onion soup mix in the sauce for saltiness to suit your taste.
  • For a spicier version, consider adding chili powder or red pepper flakes to the meat mixture or sauce.
  • Leftover meatballs can be reheated in the oven or microwave and pair well with rice, mashed potatoes, or on slider buns.
