Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Butter Spread

  • 1 french bread loaf (18 inches long)
  • 3 tablespoons softened butter
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Meat and Cheese

  • 8 ounces sliced deli ham
  • 2 ounces thinly sliced pepperoni
  • 2 ounces thinly sliced salami
  • 4 ounces provolone cheese (sliced)

Salad Topping and Dressing

  • 8 ounces shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomato
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoncini peppers
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350˚F to prepare for toasting the sandwich.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Cut the french bread loaf horizontally to create two long halves, and place both halves cut-side up on a baking sheet.
  3. Make the Garlic Butter Spread: In a small bowl, combine softened butter, grated parmesan, garlic powder, and salt. Spread this mixture evenly over the top half of the french bread loaf.
  4. Assemble and Bake the Sandwich: Layer the ham, pepperoni, and salami evenly on the bottom half of the bread, then top with sliced provolone cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the garlic butter topping is bubbly. To achieve extra crispiness and golden edges, optionally broil the sandwich for 1-2 minutes at the end of baking.
  5. Prepare the Salad Topping: While the sandwich bakes, whisk together mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and garlic powder to make the dressing. Toss shredded lettuce, diced tomato, and sliced pepperoncini peppers with this dressing until well coated.
  6. Finish and Serve: Remove the sandwich from the oven. Spread the dressed salad evenly over the melted provolone cheese on the bottom half of the bread. Close the sandwich with the garlic butter-spread top half. Cut into 4 large or 8 smaller finger-sized sandwiches and serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can broil the sandwich for 1-2 minutes at the end for a crispier top.
  • Feel free to substitute the pepperoni or salami with other cured meats like capicola for variation.
  • Using fresh grated Parmesan is best for the garlic butter spread to enhance flavor.
  • If preferred, you can make the salad topping ahead and add just before serving to keep the sandwich from getting soggy.
  • Serve with a side of chips or pickles for a complete meal.
